What is Equine Infrared Imaging?
Equine Infrared Imaging or Infrared Thermal Imaging is a safe, non-invasive, preventative and diagnostic method which uses body surface temperature detection. Areas of interest or concern can be targeted, allowing veterinarians or physiotherapists the ability to diagnose conditions or highlight a starting point for more in-depth tests to be performed. This can reduce the amount time used performing expensive, invasive diagnostic procedures that the horse would have to endure, whilst saving money. Equine Infrared Imaging can effectively identify pain, inflammation and stiffness in horses.
Horses are prey animals and mask their pain out of instinct to survive. When riding you might be able to feel that your horse is uneven. Pain can trigger a range of reactions in horses, bucking, backing off, resenting being tacked up and their performance may be affected. However sometimes it may be difficult to really target where the problem is coming from, that's where Equine Infrared Imaging comes in.
